Random Acts of Kindness You Can Do Today

 In Blog

What would you do if someone did something nice for you today? Would it make your day better or worse?

For some people, a little kindness is all that they need to brighten their day. Every single person deserves to feel good about themselves and the world they live in. So, if you’re looking to brighten up someone’s day, why not do a random act of kindness? Here are a few you might try!

  • If you have a coffee in the morning, bring one for someone else.
  • Bring an extra umbrella to work, so your coworker doesn’t get wet on their walk home.
  • Buy flowers and leave them anonymously at someone’s doorstep or desk with no note attached. It will be a pleasant surprise!
  • If you’re having lunch or dinner with someone, pay for their meal too.
  • Let the person in front of you go first at a checkout line – especially if they have children or look like they’re in a hurry.
  • Bring your friend lunch even though it’s not your turn to do so this week – and then have lunch together!
  • Put a $20 in an envelope and leave it at the cash register when you’re shopping for someone to find.
  • Tell your manager that they did a great job on something that happened recently. It will make their day to feel appreciated!
  • Pay for someone’s toll on the way to work.
  • Put coins into a vending machine so someone can get a free snack on you!
  • Give a compliment to someone.
  • Write an encouraging note and leave it in your child’s lunchbox.
  • Tell your colleague that you appreciate all of their hard work around the office today when everyone else seems really busy.
  • Offer to walk your neighbor’s dog if they are busy or out of town. It will be nice exercise and give them peace of mind that their pet is being taken care of while they’re busy or away.
  • Leave an extra few dollars for your waiter/waitress when you go out to eat tonight.
  • Let someone merge into traffic ahead of you.
  • Donate your unwanted/unneeded items to a local shelter or donation center. It will give you space in the house, and someone else can use those clothes, electronics, furniture, or other household goods.
  • Give up your seat on public transportation to someone elderly.
  • When it’s someone else’s birthday on social media, be sure to comment with a nice message to them or send them a personal email. Saying happy birthday means more when there is some thought behind it!
  • Spend your day smiling at people. Smiling is a simple (and free) thing that can lift someone’s mood – even that of a stranger!
  • Take care of your neighbor’s plants while they are away on vacation. They’ll have well-maintained plants to come home to! And you’ll keep their house safe from burglars, too.
  • Call someone you haven’t talked to in a while. While you may send text messages often, people will appreciate hearing your voice!
  • Spend some extra time with your children this evening. Let them pick what’s for dinner – even if it’s cereal – and perhaps watch a movie or play a game after dinner.
  • Volunteer at your local animal shelter. Dogs always need to be walked, and kennels always need to be cleaned – and extra helping hands are almost always welcome.

Random acts of kindness don’t need to be expensive or extravagant. It’s truly the thought that counts – and brings a smile to someone’s face! What act of kindness can you do today?
